The 8th Dalai Lama

1758_____Jampel Gyatso, the 8th Dalai Lama, is born in the village of Thobgyal in Upper Tsang province. The boy ascends to the throne at the age of four. Initiated as a monk, he receives the name “Ocean of Gentleness and Fame”. But Jampel Gyatso soon recedes from view.

1791_____The 8th Dalai Lama stays out of the fray, delegating secular power to his deputy.

1804_____The 8th Dalai Lama dies at the age of 46.
